According to CB Insights, the sector completed 81 funding rounds in the first quarter globally, with a median amount of $10 million.

On May 7, CB Insights published a study on the financing ofinsurtech globally during the first quarter of 2026. A study rich in lessons. Two of them particularly caught our attention: the first three months of the year were marked by the low number of fundraising recorded, but also by their large size.

During the first quarter of 2026, the sector raised $1.6 billion (compared to $1.4 billion for the same period in 2025). To reach this amount, only 81 funding rounds were recorded, the lowest level since the second quarter of 2016 (67 transactions). At the same time, deal sizes reached record levels: $23.2 million on average, and $10 million on median. On this last indicator, the previous record dates back to 2021, with $5.3 million for the median funding round.

Among the 81 fundraising rounds recorded, 52% of them were concluded by American companies and 26% by European companies. On the French side, Alan stood out by signing the second largest transaction of the first quarter with $116 million. First place goes to the American Devoted Health, an insurance company specializing in seniors which raised $318 million.

Another point raised by CB Insights, the Andreessen Horowitz fund was the most active in the sector, taking part in three fundraising rounds. Note that investors specializing in insurtech were very discreet in the first quarter. Only four of them have made investments (American Family Ventures, Intact Ventures, Optum Ventures and Sancor Seguros Ventures).

Finally, the report tells us that 14 exit operations took place in the first quarter of 2026 (compared to 17 in the first quarter of 2025).

In detail, there are 13 mergers and acquisitions and one IPO, that of the American insurtech Ethos, which specializes in the sale of life insurance.
