The Minister of Labor claims to have obtained a guarantee from the Prime Minister to maintain resources for apprenticeships and youth employment contracts despite budget cuts.
The 2027 budget provides for 2.8 billion euros in savings within the scope of the Ministry of Labor. His minister, Jean-Pierre Farandou, assured Wednesday that measures in favor of youth, in particular apprenticeships and youth employment contracts, would be preserved.
Substantial savings but priorities maintained
Jean-Pierre Farandou, Minister of Labor, indicated on Wednesday that he had obtained guarantees from the Prime Minister in order to “preserve youth”, within the framework of budgetary discussions marked by binding objectives for reducing spending. The spending plan for the 2027 budget, published on July 16, puts the savings affecting the Ministry of Labor at 2.8 billion euros.
On Europe 1/CNews, Jean-Pierre Farandou explained: “But what is very important and that, the Prime Minister granted it to me, the only request that I made of him was to preserve youth.” He specified that the resources allocated to apprenticeships and youth employment contracts in local missions would be maintained, despite the budgetary efforts requested from all ministries.
The minister insisted on the need not to sacrifice policies in favor of young people. “It is a very important battle because youth is the future. We must never let youth down (…) The apprenticeship policy is a real success and we are going to stabilize both aid to businesses and training costs to train young people,” he noted.
Jean-Pierre Farandou also mentioned young people aged 18-19 in difficulty, “who can go to local missions where we will offer them a youth employment contract (…) which allows them to integrate into professional life”.
The Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, made a favorable decision at the request of the Minister of Labor. “He granted it to me, so I prefer to make efforts elsewhere,” underlined Jean-Pierre Farandou. He thanked the head of government for this decision, while recognizing that this would involve making additional savings on other items: “Of course, that means that we will have to make savings elsewhere, around two billion (euros) in savings, but we will play the game.”
