The decline in the number of business creations in June 2026 comes after a sharp increase in May, with contrasting developments depending on the sector.
The number of business creations in France fell in June after a marked rebound the previous month, penalized by the registrations of micro-entrepreneurs and the creation of individual businesses which started to decline again, according to INSEE on Tuesday.
After experiencing a sharp increase in May (+10.6% according to corrected data), the total number of business creations, all types combined, decreased in June (-2.2%). 107,856 businesses were created during the month, the majority of which were micro-enterprises.
This development is part of a sequence marked by significant monthly variations: in May 2026, the total number of business creations, all types combined, had rebounded strongly (+10.7% after -6.8% in April). In April 2026, the total number of business creations fell sharply (-6.3% after +2.2% in March).
Annual momentum still sustained
Despite this one-off decline in June, the total number of businesses created over one year remains up sharply by 11.1% compared to the same period a year earlier (July 2024 to June 2025). This is explained in particular by the sharp increase in registrations of micro-entrepreneurs but also by the creation of companies. In 2025, in France, business creations will continue to increase, once again reaching a record level of 1,165,800.
In detail, business creations experienced a sharp decline in the information and communication sector in June (-10.4% after +25% the previous month) as well as in household services (-3.6% after +13.1%). INSEE notes a slightly more moderate decline in business support activities (-3.3% after +13.5%).
On the other hand, they accelerate in the construction sector (+5.2% after +2.8%) and observe a slowdown in transport and warehousing activities (+2.5% after +6.2%).
