In the event of a move, the Family Allowance Fund (CAF), the Agirc-Arrco Supplementary Pension Fund or even Parcoursup can provide assistance to individuals.
The summer season represents the busiest period for moving in France. More than half of home changes take place during the months of July and August, according to data from companies Dmax and Nextories, which specialize in organizing moves. This concentration is linked to the start of the school year.
In September, students return to university towns where they will continue their studies, while new employees or those in professional transfer take up their positions most of the time in September or October. Summer holidays therefore offer families the ideal opportunity to organize their move into new accommodation.
However, a move entails considerable costs: rental of a vehicle, use of a moving company, etc. Fortunately, several organizations offer financial assistance intended to reduce household bills.
The Family Allowance Fund (CAF) and the Mutualité sociale agricole (MSA) grant a moving bonus to large families. Since April 1, 2026, this aid can reach 1,147.58 euros for a household with at least 3 children, whether born or unborn. An additional amount of 95.63 euros per child is added beyond the third. The move must take place between the end of the third month of pregnancy of the last child and his or her second birthday. Finally, the applicant must be eligible for personalized housing assistance (APL) or family housing allowance (ALF) for their future housing.
The Agirc-Arrco pension fund, dedicated to former employees in the private sector, also offers a relocation assistance system for its affiliates. This assistance can cover up to 3,500 euros. The amount may vary depending on the geographic areas of the current home and the future home. To request this assistance, retirees must contact their supplementary pension fund directly. To do this, they can send a letter, fill out an online form on the Agirc-Arrco website, or contact their pension fund directly by telephone.
Finally, the Parcoursup system offers specific assistance to high school students who are preparing to enter higher education far from their family home. This mobility aid amounts to 500 euros for future students. Three criteria determine eligibility: being a beneficiary of a high school scholarship, being registered on the Parcoursup platform during the current year with at least one wish confirmed outside their academy of residence, and having definitively accepted an admission offer for training located outside their academy of origin.
Requests can be made from June 1, 2026 on the portal messervices.etudiant.gouv.fr. An additional system exists for scholarship students holding a bachelor’s degree who change academic region to join a master’s degree. The latter can claim aid of 1,000 euros.
